Alice Hertz was born on July 9, 1872, her sister Johanna Hertz on September 8, 1879 in Hamburg. Both were Jewish.
Her parents were Auguste and Lesser Hertz. They had two brothers, Emil and Henry. Johanna and Alice Hertz neither had any children and lived together as sisters in Berlin- Schlachtensee at Ahrenshoop Zeile 43, their last freely chosen place of residence.
They were worried early on that all their assets would be taken away from them. They gave it to their long-time domestic worker, Mrs. Wodarzig, and her daughter Liselotte.
On September 25, 1942, Alice and Johanna Hertz, then 70 and 63 years old, were given the “67th birthday”. “Transport for the Elderly” from Berlin to the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Alice Hertz died there on December 4, 1942. Johanna Hertz was transported from Theresienstadt to the Auschwitz extermination camp on October 23, 1944. Due to her age, it can be assumed that she was gassed immediately after her arrival.
Her nephews Walter and Oscar Hertz emigrated to South America and received compensation for their aunts' jewelry and home furnishings in the 1950s.
