Johanna Perez née Bender

Johanna Perez, an “Aryan”, protestant woman from Berlin, married Rafael Perez, a Bulgarian Jew, in 1919. The marriage took place against the wishes of her family. She refused to divorce her husband, despite being warned to do so by the National Socialists, and emigrated with him to England in 1939. Their son was able to emigrate to Palestine in 1938. After the death of her husband in 1967, Johanna joined her son in Israel, where she died in August 1971.
