Edmund Wolfsohn was born on 17 March 1870 in Posen (now Poznán in Poland).
In 1890 he moved to Berlin and joined the Darmstadter National Bank. He became a director, and later of the Dresdner Bank, after the two banks merged.
He married Rosa Herzberg and they lived at Fasanenstrasse 67 in Charlottenburg from c1910 to 1928, and then at Kaiserdamm 82.

Both secular Jews, they had three children: Hans (born 5/1/02, Berlin; died London 4/3/91), Friedrich (Fritz) (born 21/4/06, Berlin; died Palestine in 1942) and Liselotte, (born 13/11/08, Berlin; died, London 26/8/92).
Prior to marriage Edmund had a son (Edmund Wenzel born 19/2/1896 Berlin, died 14/5/1987, Greifswald) with Alwine Wenzel. Edmund supported the Wenzel family until 1938; they and their descendants survive in Germany to today.

While Edmund and Rosa’s children each left Germany as the Nazi’s expanded their power, Edmund believed strongly in the strength of the German legal system and insisted on staying in Berlin. His belief was reinforced by winning a court action taken against him for supposed exploitation as a result of being Jewish.

On 6th November 1938 Edmund and Rosa travelled on holiday to London to attend Liselotte’s 30th birthday. Following the destruction to property and life during Kristallnacht pogrom (9/10 November) they could not return to Germany, losing all their possessions, but keeping their lives.
They were unable to stay in the UK and managed to travel to Palestine joining their sons Fritz and Hans who were there.

Edmund died in Israel on on 3rd March 1952.
The Wolfsohn name was changed to Wolfson in July 1924.
Edmund’s great grandchildren now live in UK, Israel and Germany.
