Anna Heinemann was born on November 21, 1869 in Lüneburg as the daughter of the respected citizen and banker Marcus Heinemann. Anna had sixteen siblings, only twelve of whom survived childhood.
She married the merchant Otto Levy, who was born on October 23, 1864 in Malchow in Mecklenburg. Both were Jewish.
Around 1890, Anna and Otto Levy moved to Berlin. They adopted Ernest Rudolf Louis Levy, who was born on November 8, 1908. In the same year they built a large villa with 10 rooms, 2 bathrooms and central heating on the property at An der Rehwiese 4 in Nikolassee, which they lived in until 1938.
At Christmas 1937 they visited their son Ernest, who had emigrated to Paris. Anna and Otto Levy returned to Germany to organize their own departure. To do this, they sold the villa at a price that was significantly lower than its value and moved into a furnished room at Palmzeile 6 in Schlachtensee.
They were no longer able to leave the country. Their passports were taken away.
On September 10, 1942, Anna and Otto Levy, then 72 and 76 years old, were awarded the “61st birthday”. Old Age Transport” deported to Theresienstadt.
From there they were deported on September 29, 1942 to the Treblinka extermination camp east of Warsaw.
Even if their date of death is not known, it can be assumed that they were murdered immediately after their arrival in Treblinka.
After the war, Ernest Levy was able to reach an agreement with the buyer of the property at An der Rehwiese 4 in which he was awarded half of the purchase price upon resale.
