Klara Freund was born in Stettin, Pomerania (now Szczecin, Poland) on 10 March 1885. She married Bruno Hirschfeld, a tradesman. Their son Hans-Heinz was born in Berlin in 1913. On 15 August 1940, the Freund family moved in to two furnished attic rooms at Waldweg 19 (now Franziusweg 63) in Lichtenrade, district of Tempelhof, as subtenants of Johanna Maass (see Maass).
Together with her husband and son, Klara Freund was deported on 13 June 1942 on the 15th transport to Sobibor extermination camp in German-occupied Poland. At Lublin station, the transportees were put through a “selection” process and Klara and Bruno Hirschfeld were separated from their son. None of the approximately 740 people deported with them survived.
