During the years prior to his deportation, Julius Cohn and his wife Margarete lived at Thomasiusstraße 26. They were sub-tenants at the home of Kurt and Irma Marcus, renting a room with a shared kitchen. The Marcuses were the main tenants of the 6-bedroom apartment, which had been converted into a so-called Jew apartment.
Very little is known about Julius Cohn. He was born on October 20, 1876 in Potsdam. We do not know what he did for a living. He had to do slave labor for the Kodak company from May 14, 1940 until February 27, 1943. On March 3, 1943, one day after his wife Margarete was deported without him, Julius Cohn was himself deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp and murdered.
