Heinz Hirschberg was born on 30 December 1903 in Berlin. He had two brothers and a sister. After the death of his father in 1918, his mother, Anna Hirschberg, née Quadt, moved into a courtyard apartment at Flora Strasse 61. Unfortunately, we do not have any information on Heinz’s life. His mother is listed in the Berlin directory of the years 1918-1942 as the householder at Flora Strasse 61; it is likely that Heinz Hirschberg also lived there until 1942.

His older brother Hans Hirschberg last lived at Schönholzer Strasse 6a (where a plaque commemorates him). He was deported to Piaski in 1942 and murdered in Majdanek concentration camp on 25 July 1942.

His two younger siblings survived the Holocaust: His brother Lothar was able to immigrate to the United States and lived in Los Angeles after the war. His sister Vera Grünthal, née Hirschberg, managed to immigrate to Argentina with her husband. Vera Grünthal received letters from her mother and her brother Heinz until late 1942, after which there were no more signs of life from them.

According to statements by their neighbours, Anna Hirschberg was taken away in November 1942 and Heinz Hirschberg a few days later. Both were deported to Auschwitz and murdered; Anna Hirschberg on 29 November 1942 and Heinz Hirschberg on 9 December 1942.
