In Berlin, local Stolperstein-groups administer all requests regarding their neighbourhoods. In this, they are independent and autonomous. But the increasing demand for Stolpersteine in Berlin make an institutionalized framework necessary. Thus, the district museums of Mitte and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg established the Coordination Office Stolpersteine Berlin in 2005. The Coordination Office was affiliated to the Aktives Museum Faschismus und Widerstand in Berlin e.V. in 2012.
The Coordination Office Stolpersteine Berlin serves as liaison office between the artist Gunter Demnig together with his team and the local Stolperstein-groups. Further it is the first contact point for requests or any general questions about Stolpersteine.
Further, the Coordination Office supports the qualification of civic participation in regard to Stolpersteine on several levels: it offers workshops for research, archives and for writing biographical texts as well as common visits to relevant exhibitions and the realisation of own lectures and events.
Apart from that, the Coordination Office maintains the site www.stolpersteine-berlin.de which is the mutual website of all Berlin Stolperstein-groups.
