Ruth Kempner was born in Berlin, Germany on 30 August 1925 to Josef Kempner and Elsbeth Kempner nee Janklowitz. Ruth lived with her parents in Berlin at various addresses until she was 13 years old when she was sent away by her mother to Kempner relatives in the UK through the Kindertransport. She arrived in the UK on 18 January 1939 having travelled there with two 1st cousins Rudolf (Rudi) Kempner and Margot Kempner, also recipients of the Kindertransport. She lived in a Kempner family home there until her mother Elsbeth arrived in the UK from Germany in April of 1939 (she left Germany on 31 March 1939). Ruth eventually met Jack Kauffman, a United States serviceman, in Great Britain. They were married there between July and September of 1945. She left for the United States in 1946 where she the rest of her life in Atlantic City New Jersey Margate City, New Jersey with her husband, son and mother. She died in Egg Harbor Township New Jersey, June 8, 2020..
