Adele (Eidel) Stark, geb. Lauer, was born to Mojzesz Lauer and Jutte Richter on 26 May 1884 in Janow (now Ivano Frankove, Ukraine). Adele married Nathan (Nachman) Stark in 1907, in Grodek Jagiellonski (now Horokok Ukraine). Their first son, Judel Stark, died at age 2 in 1909. Their son Max (Aron Markus/Mordecai) Stark was born in Grodek Jagiellonski on 26 April 1908, their daughter Rosa (Reisel) Stark was born in the same town on 10 September 1910.
The family moved to N54 Dragonerstrasse 48, Berlin, in 1910. In 1917, Nathan Stark was severely wounded in a trolley accident. As he was an invalid and Adele had two small children to raise, Adele’s sister Sara (born 24 December 1889) moved from Grodek Jagiellonski to Berlin to assist. Nathan died in 1919.

Adele, Max and Rosa lived at 48 Dragonerstrasse until the early 1930s, when Adele, Rosa and Max moved to 76a Elsässerstrasse. Max emigrated to the US in 1933. Adele and Rosa were forced to leave Berlin in 1936. They traveled to Kattowitz (now Katowice), near the German border. They were not heard from again after 1939, and after the war Max’s best friend, Karol Teller, reported that he had seen Adele and Sara shot in the streets of Kattowitz. Their final resting places are unknown.
