Dora Herschander, née Hirsch, was born on 18 February 1851 in Rogowo, in the Prussian province of Posen. She married Israel Herschander, a merchant, who died in 1930. She and her husband had moved to a house at Berliner Straße 26 in 1921, and she continued to live there as a widow. But in 1941 she was sent to live at Choriner Straße 29 in Prenzlauer Berg. This house belonged to the Jewish Community at Oranienburger Straße 29. At the time, very many people were housed within its limited premises. On 20 July 1942, Dora Herschander was deported to Theresienstadt, aged 91. She was sent on one of the so-called small transports of 100 people from Berlin to Theresienstadt. Only four of the people on this transport survived the Holocaust. Dora Herschander died on 19 August 1942 in Theresienstadt.
